Ambani Weddings refers to discussions and memes about lavish Indian wedding celebrations thrown by the Ambani family. Patriarch Mukesh Ambani, the owner of Reliance Industries, is one of the wealthiest Asian businessmen as of 2023. Memes about Ambani wedding guestlists, Mukesh Ambani's political influence and his families affiliation with Bollywood were popular in 2018, partly fueled by video footage of American pop star Beyoncé performing and American politicians Hillary Clinton and John Keery dancing at Isha Ambani's wedding went viral in 2018. The memes made a resurgence after photos and videos from Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's engagement circulated in January 2023.

Background

Mukesh Ambani is the son of textile baron and renowned Indian industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani. He is the chairperson and managing director of Reliance Industries Ltd., which is a Fortune Global 500 company and India's most valuable company by market value. His net worth is approximately US$93.8 billion as of November 2022, making him the eighth richest person in the world.

Mukesh Ambani married Nita Ambani in 1985 and had two sons and a daughter, named Akash, Anant and Isha. Isha Ambani married Anand Piramal in December 2018, Akash Ambani married Shloka Mehta in March 2019 and Anant Ambani married Radhika Merchant in January 2023.^[1]

Isha Ambani's 2018 Wedding

In December 2018, photos from Isha Ambani's wedding began to circulate, including photos of Beyoncé's performance at the event. On December 9th, 2018, Twitter ^[2]user @BeyLegion posted a series of images of Beyoncé, gathering over 6,000 likes in nearly five years (seen below, left). Also on December 9th, Twitter^[5] user @SirJadeja posted a meme about the performers at the wedding, posting an image from the Netflix show Sacred Games with text that translates to, "Sometimes I think I am God." The tweet gathered over 2,000 likes in nearly 5 years (seen below, right).

Also on December 9th, various Twitter users noted that famous Bollywood actors performed at the wedding as well,^[3] with Twitter user MrTippler saying, "Mukesh Ambani can even reduce Salman Khan to a background dancer for his son’s performance. There’s nothing more powerful in the world than money." The tweet gathered over 6,000 likes in five years.^[4] The video was removed from Twitter but can be accessed via upload to YouTube (seen below).

On December 11th, 2018, Twitter^[5] user @_Namrataa posted a video that read, "Hillary Clinton and John Kerry dancing in Isha Ambani’s wedding. Those Americans who were wondering how rich one had to be to have Beyoncé dance in wedding would go in depression seeing this 😂." The video gathered over 2,000 likes in nearly five years (seen below).

Anant Ambani's 2023 Wedding

On January 18th, 2023, Twitter^[6] user @UmdarTamker posted a meme with text that read, "The engagement of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant is to be held today at Antilla…. Meanwhile Bollywood superstars and politicians in the party." The post gathered over 1,000 likes in five days (seen below, left). On January 19th, 2023, Twitter^[7] account @ANI posted a tweet that read, "The engagement of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant held today at Mukesh Ambani's residence Antilla in Mumbai.." The post gathered over 17,000 likes in four days (seen below, right).

On January 20th, 2023, Twitter^[8] user @jyotat0 posted a video with a tweet that read, "Functions in Ambani Family exist Bollywood stars," gathering over 15,000 views and 700 likes in three days (seen below).

Also on January 20th, 2023, Twitter^[9] account @ANI posted a video of the Ambani family dancing at Anant Ambani's engagement, gathering over 2 million views and 20,000 likes in three days (seen below).

On January 21st, Instagram^[10] page @single.stud posted a meme featuring an angry-looking man saying, "But bro how did such a pretty girl come to like a fat man like Anant Ambani?" The post gathered over 4,000 likes in two days (seen below, left).
