AI Adin Ross Controversy

Overview

AI Adin Ross Controversy, also known as Fake Adin Ross Prank or Deepfake Adin Ross, refers to a series of viral videos showing a person using AI deepfake technology to pretend to be Kick streamer Adin Ross, convincing his fans to smash their own PS5s, Phones, PCs and TVs, among other expensive products, promising that if they do so he'll replace the items or give them money. The prank videos started on TikTok in April 2024 by user johnjam11703, who alleges to have used a combination of AI tools and the random video chat app Monkey (similar to Omegle) to impersonate the streamer. Following their virality, Ross reacted to some of the AI videos and warned his fans to not break their things unless he asks for it, as the streamer often does “dare streams” in which he encourages random viewers to complete stunts or destroy their property.

On April, 14th, 2024, TikTok user @johnjam11703^[1] uploaded a screen recording of an interaction on the random video chat app Monkey in which they used a combination of AI tools to impersonate American streamer Adin Ross, convincing a kid to throw their PlayStation console out of the window. The video (shown below, left) received roughly 13,000 plays and 160 likes in a week.

On April 20th, the same creator posted^[2] another video convincing a teen to put a hole in their wall (shown below, right), which amassed over 531,000 plays and 45,000 likes in two days.

Response From Adin Ross

On April 19th, 2024, Kick streamer Adin Ross commented about his AI impersonator pranking his fans during a livestream. The TikTok page @adin_clip^[3] shared a clip of the stream in which Ross warned his fans to not break their things unless he asks for it (shown below), amassing roughly 2,500 plays and 120 likes in four days.

Online Reactions

The AI Adin Ross videos pranking fans started to be shared on other social media platforms as they garnered attention online in late April 2024.

For example, X^[4] user @AdinUpdate's post on April 21st, 2024, showed a Ross fan destroying "his entire $5,000 setup" after being pranked by the AI troll. The tweet (shown below) received roughly 363,000 views and 1,700 likes in a day.
