Origin

Before the release of the music video, the TikTok[3] account @corteslilvinicin shared a clip of the Brazilian streamer singing "Casado" on January 20th. The clip received 406,000 views, 74,800 likes and generated 3,853 other videos using the song as audio for a new TikTok trend.

On January 23rd, 2023, the Brazilian streamer Vinicius Moraes, also known as vinicin_lil on Twitch,[1] released the music video for the song "Casado" (married in English) on his YouTube channel.[2] The ironic track that exalts monogamic relationships won over the internet, its lyrics listing a series of activities that the singer stops doing precisely because he is a married man now. The video has 111,180 views and 23,000 likes in three days.

In his music, the streamer repeatedly says "I am married" accompanied by the sound of a hip-hop beat, listing situations that single people usually value, but that he is unable to take part in anymore. One notable excerpt from the lyrics translates to, "Let me ask you: is your father a mechanic? My car broke. I'm not being romantic. Take it slow, young lady. Don't panic. Holy shit, how good it is to be monogamous."

Spread

Inspired by the song's lyrics, other married men started the TikTok trend to show pictures of their girlfriends to explain why they aren't going out with others anymore. On January 22nd, TikTok[4] user @orenatovicente (left) recorded his girlfriend reacting to the music while he kept showing his wedding ring to the camera. The video received 1.2 million views and 254,500 likes in three days. Another creator, TikTok[5] user @capcut.modellos, used cropped images of his girlfriend synced with the song's lyrics. His January 24th video (right) garnered 471,000 views and 76,600 likes in one day.

The song quickly gained interest on other social media sites, like Twitter, where the streamer's post[6] on January 23rd, 2023 reached 2.9 million views and became one of the trending topics in Brazil.
