About

Esmé, also known as the Disillusion ST Mime Girl, is a mime that appears in the 2023 independent video game Dissolusion ST, depicted in a full black leotard with a bashful look on her face. When the player encounters Esmé, she gives them a speech on the importance of passion while dancing and rocking back and forth. The character was popularized in late January 2024 after a playthrough of the game was uploaded to the Vinesauce YouTube channel, inspiring fan art and memes depicting her.

Origin

The independent, surrealist dungeon crawler video game Disillusion ST, a sequel to Disillusion, was released in an early form on Itch.io^[1] on August 14th, 2023, receiving numerous updates over the following months. On January 23rd, 2024, YouTuber^[2] Vincesauce: The Full Sauce uploaded a Let's Play video covering the game, garnering over 100,000 views in two weeks. Around the 17:56 mark, Vinny comes across Esmé and interacts with her, sparking a scene in which she speaks on the importance of passion (shown below).

On January 24th, 2024, YouTuber^[3] Shavin65 posted a video consisting of Esmé's scene in the game, titled "Esmé.mov," garnering over 220,000 views in two weeks (shown below).

On January 29th, X^[4] user @kris_Draws2002 posted fan art of Esmé, garnering over 290 likes in a week (shown below, left). Later that day, X^[5] user @N00nimous posted fan art in which Esmé is depicted saying, "What's a Vinesauce?" garnering over 8,400 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).
