About

Entradas de Cria or Calvão de Cria is a Brazilian haircut style simulating baldness that began trending on social media, primarily TikTok, in February 2022. The trend was started by the Brazilian barber Marcio Campos and became an ironic haircut that proved popular among teenage boys, similar to the Edgar Haircut. The hairstyle also inspired the funk song "Tropa do Calvo" (Eng: "Bald Troops"), which celebrates bald men.

Origin

On February 14th, 2022, the barber Marcio Campos posted a video on his TikTok[1] account showing two young men's new haircut styles. He dubbed the haircut "Calvão de Cria" in Portuguese (Eng: "youth's bald"), and the first video promoting the haircut went viral on TikTok where it received over 3.9 million views in seven months (shown below).

In an interview for the Brazilian site UOL[2] posted on YouTube, Campos explained that the haircut "reproduces the head of someone with hair only on the sides" (seen below, top). In one part of the clip, the barber is also seen with a female customer doing a bald haircut (seen below, bottom).

Spread

After the video's success on the barber's TikTok account, @dcria_barber_shop, he continued to post other clients' haircuts, which also generated buzz on the video platform. For example, on April 19th, 2022, Campos uploaded another TikTok showing a haircut that received over 1.9 million views in five months (seen below).

As the haircut style gained virality online, it also generated memes across other social media platforms in the following weeks and months. For example, on April 25th, 2022, a tweet[3] by Twitter user @chanceverdade showed a fake news headline announcing that the haircut is the new trend among young people, receiving 53,000 likes in five months (shown below).

Around mid-June and early July 2022, the haircut grew considerably on social media as it was covered on the TV news program Jornal da Band. Posted on July 8th, 2022, the TikTok[4] video was viewed 5.7 million times in one month (seen below).

There are 37.7 million views on the hashtag #calvaodecria as of August 4th. 2022.

Entradas de Cria

Marcio Campos claims he also invented "Entradas de Cria," a semi-bald haircut style that, according to him on the UOL [2] interview from July 29th, 2022, the name was inspired by Vegeta, a character from the Dragon Ball anime. The barber also mentions that "the haircut can be called Vegeta's Cut," he said (seen below).

This new haircut proceeded to explode on TikTok after the Brazilian user Mai Andressa decided to change her style and opted for the Entradas de Cria. The video showing the process of the haircut was posted on July 8th, 2022, by TikToker @dcria_barber_shop and reached 24 million views in one month (shown below).

Mai Andressa shared to the local news site BHAZ[5] on July 9th, 2022, that her decision to do the haircut “came up and I thought it could be a good way to show people that we can be beautiful with any type of hair, that all women are beautiful and we don't have to live by these standards,” she said.

Tropa do Calvo

On April 11th, 2022, YouTuber Mc Thor posted a funk song called "Tropa do Calvo," or "Bald Gang" in English, which became the unofficial theme song for the haircut going forward (seen below). In the song, the singer celebrates a group of friends that are bald and proud of it. The song accumulated over 77,000 listens on Spotify and roughly 1,400 videos tagged on TikTok as of August 4th, 2022.
