In January 2022, a Twitter user shared the Dutch translation for the phrase "spank me daddy," showing the results "geef me een klap papa," sparking a trend that month where users share the English to Dutch translation for similar comedic phrases in memes.

Origin

On January 3rd, 2022, Twitter[1] user @JustWantToGrill posted, "dutch is not a serious language" along with a screenshot of an English to Dutch translation, made using Google Translate, for the phrase "spank me daddy," showing the results, "geef me een klap papa," highlighting how silly the phrase sounds in the language, gaining over 116,000 likes and 14,000 retweets in a week (shown below). The screenshot was also posted to Instagram[5] page thearchbishopofbanterbury the next day, gaining over 195,000 likes in roughly one week.

Spread

The tweet by @JustWantToGrill started a trend on Twitter as users shared other humorous English to Dutch translations. For example, on January 5th, 2022, Twitter[2] user @FurtiveOnanist posted, "are you fucking kidding me," along with a screenshot of the phrase "fucking in the kitchen" translated to Dutch, resulting in "neuken in de keuken," gaining over 115,000 likes and 11,000 retweets in five days (shown below).

On January 6th, Twitter[3] user @punishedpope posted, "oh come on," with a fake screenshot of the translation of the phrase "my penis hurts," resulting in, "mijn peanus horts," a phrase very similar to "My Peanus Horts So Bad," also the subject of memes around the same time, gaining over 129,000 likes and 9,900 retweets in four days (shown below).

On the same day, Twitter[4] user @mountbellyache posted, "dutch is a funny language," with a photoshopped translation of the phrase "he is a virgin," appearing to result in, "his is een weezer-fan," a joke about the band Weezer, gaining over 142,000 likes and 10,000 retweets in four days (shown below).
