Emmrich the Necromancer is a character announced for the 2024 RPG Dragon Age: The Veilguard, depicted as an older human man whose class is a necromancer. After the character's reveal at the 2024 Summer Games Fest in June of that year, many fans expressed thirst for him with a variety of memes and posts online.

Origin

On June 9th, 2024, at the Summer Games Fest, Dragon Age: The Veilguard debuted with a trailer that introduced seven characters, including Emmrich Volkarin, a human necromancer. The trailer received over 1.8 million views in three days (shown below).

Immediately after the trailer, some viewers online expressed attraction to Emmrich. The day the trailer was released, Twitter / X user @whereshawke[1] posted a tweet expressing attraction to the character, notably using the Nicki Minaj So There's This Guy meme and gaining over 760 retweets and 2,800 likes in three days (shown below).


Spread

Over the following several days, multiple Twitter / X users expressed thirst for Emmrich. For example, on June 10th, 2024, X user @LizagnaNoodles[2] tweeted screenshots of Emmerich with the caption "LET'S SEXUALIZE THAT OLD MAN," gaining over 1,000 retweets and 4,400 likes in two days (shown below, left). The same day, X user @galesmagehand[3] posted a meme about the character, gaining over 480 retweets and 3,000 likes in the same timeframe (shown below, right).



On June 11th, Twitter / X user @kalaelizabeth[5] posted an update about Dragon Age: The Veilguard that revealed Emmrich's personality would be "intimate and sensual," intensifying thirst for the character. The tweet gained over 1,100 retweets and 5,500 likes in one day (shown below). On June 12th, Kotaku[4] covered the thirst in an article.
