Electric Chair or Chair But Make it Electric is a slang response used primarily on Twitter to an action or statement made that has deemed the perpetrator worthy of the death penalty.

Origin

On September 26th, 2017, Twitter user @DivineTonio posted a clip of the webseries The Queen's Court[1] to Twitter of Khia responding to drama surrounding Rob Kardashian by slamming a gavel and sentencing Blac Chyna to the "electric chair" (shown below). The clip was then used in numerous reactions to tweets.

On January 6th, 2019, Urban Dictionary[2] user Josh Anall defined electric chair as "stan twitter uses it as a way for wanting someone to die." The definition has gained 69 likes in three months. As the phrase became more popular on Twitter users began using the phrase "Chair but make it electric." On April 7th, @jensxnh[3] responded to disturbing news with the phrase a pictures of Tyra Banks (shown below). The phrase connotes a more catty tone than the original phrase. The response gained 99 likes in a week.

Many Twitter users became annoyed with the phrase. On April 13th, @rhodanum tweeted, "Leftists: oppose the death penalty for decades, a cornerstone of progressive thought
Tumblr-addled Twits, who have the chutzpah to identify as 'progressive': You created content that Harmed me / refused to be dragged through the mud for it! Electric chair! ELECTRIC CHAIR!
Me:" and then a facepalm GIF (shown below). The tweet gained 128 likes in two days. On April 15th, The Daily Dot[4] reported on the rising popularity of the response "electric chair."
