El Lobo Siempre Cuida Su Loba is an image macro of a human-like wolf or werewolf couple hugging paired with the overlay text in Spanish "El lobo siempre cuida su loba," which translates to "A [Male] wolf always takes care of his [Female] wolf." The primary image was created on DeviantArt in 2005 by artist rwolf. However, on May 2022 the image went viral on Facebook in Spanish (Español) paired with a WhatsApp screenshot conversation of a boy reading the overlay text and singing the Maroon 5 song "Animals."
Origin
On July 6th, 2006, DeviantArt[1] user rwolf uploaded an original drawing titled "Mates 2," depicting a human-like wolf or werewolf couple hugging and staring at each other affectionately. Over the course of 17 years, the drawing received roughly 20,000 views and over 420 favorites (shown below).
On May 9th, 2022, Facebook[2] user Ulises Grimes posted the drawing paired with the overlay text in Spanish "El lobo siempre cuida su loba," which translates to "A [Male] wolf always takes care of his [Female] wolf." The post (shown below) amassed over 310 likes and 150 shares in a year.
Spread
A month later, on June 12th, 2022, YouTubre[3] bonniegalor5387 uploaded a video featuring the werewolf couple drawing reading the overlay text in Spanish and the Maroon 5 song "Animals" playing in the background. The video (shown below) garnered over 250,000 views and 5,400 likes in a year.
On September 14th, 2022, TikToker[4] @fairycookie posted a WhatsApp screenshot conversation in which a friend had sent the werewolf couple drawing followed by an audio message of him reading the overlay text and Maroon 5's "Animals" playing in the background. The post (shown below, left) garnered over 4.4 million plays and 799,000 likes in a year.
The video was later used as a viral audio on TikTok, garnering over 600 other videos uploaded on the platform. For example, on December 4th, 2022, TikTok[5] user @sunrise_johnny15 posted a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure clip paired with the audio (shown below, right), which received over 11,800 plays and 2,100 likes in eight months.
