About
EA Logo Price Parodies are image macros featuring an unreasonably priced object paired with a label that replaces the coupled letters "e" and "a" with the Electronic Arts (EA) logo, which is used to mock the cost of the video game company's products as exorbitant.
Origin
On July 23rd, 2018, Redditor Isacos66 posted[1] the original EA Logo Price Parody meme to /r/dankmemes. The post gained 1,300 upvotes within 24 hours.
Spread
On July 24th, 2018, Redditor Dobozember posted[2] an image to /r/dankmemes featuring T EA priced at $59.99. The image gained 1,800 upvotes in eight hours (see below, left). A few hours later, Redditor JustRightCereal posted[3] an image to /r/dankmemes featuring a man eating a hamburger that is paired with an image of a man with his mouth taped shut labeled EA ting below it (see below, right). The image gained 61 upvotes in seven hours.
Many variants were posts to /r/dankmemes on the same day. Some of the images included more pricing within one image. For example, Redditor DranoelTheGreat's submitted a post[4] that gained 546 upvotes in four hours (see below, left). Other variants don't include the pricing aspect, like Redditor PoliticalAnarchy's post [5] that takes a jab more directly at EA (see below, right).
