The Dune 2 Sandworm Popcorn Bucket is reportedly a special promotional product made for the release of the film Dune 2 by movie theater company Cineplex. Commenters online in late January 2024 remarked that the bucket, which is modeled after the mouth of one of the Dune universe's monstrous sandworms, resembled a fleshlight.

Origin

Discussions about the bucket as a special promotional product first surfaced on Reddit on January 23rd, with posters claiming to work for Canadian locations of Cineplex saying they had seen it ahead of Dune 2's release. The writing on the bucket, in the most widely-posted photos of it, is in both French and English, indicating it is a product for the Canadian market.^[1] The post (seen below) received 51 upvotes over the course of three days.

Film critic and influencer 3C Films posted about the popcorn bucket, saying "Dune 2 going with a Wormussy was not on my list," on January 25th, 2024, sharing photos from the Reddit post about the Dune 2 bucket. Their TikTok video (seen below) on the topic earned over 337,000 views and 45,000 likes in the course of sixteen hours.^[2] The bucket was also discussed in other TikToks. discussion of the bucket also increased on Reddit, with popular posts in /r/dontputyourdickinthat and /r/TIHI (Thanks I Hate It).^[6][7]

A post on X also by 3C Films at 6:50 PM was quoted by the popular account @DiscussingFilm, and images of the worm bucket circulated widely on that platform as well following that post.^[3]

Posters on X also made jokes about the bucket, including film critic @davidehrlich earned over 33,000 likes in fifteen hours on January 25th for posting a joke about how AMC would allow customers to have intercourse with the bucket (seen below left).^[4] @sablaah also made a Babe, You OK? meme about the bucket, earning over 88,000 likes in sixteen hours on January 25th (seen below right).^[5] Most of these jokes focused on using the popcorn bucket for sexual purposes.
