On February 5th, 2019, Twitter ^[1] user @samelpan tweeted, "due to personal reasons i will be passing away." Within two weeks, the tweet received more than 87,000 retweets and 199,000 likes (shown below).

Spread

Over the next week, more Twitter^[2] users began posting variations of the template. On February 6th, 2019, Twitter^[2] user @proxactears tweeted, "due to personal reasons i will be jumping off the face of the earth." The tweet received more than 11,000 retweets and 33,000 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). Twitter^[3] user @garyfromteenmom posted "due to personal reasons i will be going to applebees" on February 15th. The tweet received more than 4,400 retweets and 21,000 likes in four days (shown below, center). Twitter^[4] user @kendraaaleighh tweeted, "Due to personal reasons i just took a shot of tequila." The tweet received more than 4,000 retweets and 23,000 likes in five days (shown below, right).
