Dua Lipa Dance or Dua Lipa Dancing And Twisting refers to a viral video of singer Dua Lipa twisting her hips repeatedly on the stage to the beat of her song "One Kiss." The meme was popularized on Twitter and YouTube around November 2019, with many people mocking Lipa's dancing abilities.

Origin

On September 9th, 2018, the singer Dua Lipa performed at Lollapalooza Berlin 2018. During the performance of her song "One Kiss," the singer was dancing and twisting her hips repeatedly, as YouTube[1] user RIPHashima posted on October 11th, 2018. The video (seen below) garnered 12,600 views and 127 likes in five years.

A few months later, on December 5th, 2018, Dua Lipa's dance went viral after she performed at the Jingle Ball Tour in Philadelphia. YouTube user[2] @salvatorebellamo8410 posted a video (seen below) on December 6th showing the dance, which garnered 1.3 million views and 10,000 likes in five years.

The singer's dance moves became a subject of online mockery. On December 8th, 2018, Twitter[3] user @ungodlyanele posted a video of Dua Lipa with the caption "What is this?" The post (seen below) received 5,900 likes and 1,700 retweets in four years.

About a year later, on November 28th, 2019, YouTube[4] user @froggy3559 posted a video of Dua Lipa's Lollapalooza Berlin 2018 performance, which received (seen below) 291,000 views and 1,400 likes in four years.

The video was turned into a meme on social media, with people using it to joke about Dua Lipa's dancing abilities. For example, Twitter[5] posted a video of a person using a costume inspired by the singer's awkward dance moves. The post (seen below) received 1,563 likes and 318 retweets in four years.

Dua Lipa's Reaction

Dua Lipa revealed in an interview for NPR[6] that the viral meme made her feel like "maybe I wasn't good enough or I didn't deserve to be there, I wasn't cut out to be a musician." The singer also explained that she stepped away from social media, at the time the meme was going viral, as a way to help her mental health in the wake of the influx of hate and jokes.

On March 4th, 2022, the singer recreated the meme during a guest appearance on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show. The video (seen below) was uploaded on the show's YouTube[7] channel, receiving 3.4 million views and 44,000 likes in one year.
