Origin

During CNN's broadcast on New Year's Eve 2021, co-host Andy Cohen, clearly intoxicated, went on a rant about outgoing New York City mayor Bill de Blasio while co-host Anderson Cooper tried to distract him. The video was not officially reposted by CNN but was widely reposted on social media (upload by YouTuber MapleMuss shown below).

“Let me tell you something. Watching Mayor de Blasio do his ‘victory lap’ dance after four years of the crappiest job as the mayor of New York! The only thing that the Democrats and the Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he has been, so sayonara, sucka! 2022! It’s a new year. ‘Cause guess what? I have a feeling I’m going to be standing right here next year, and you know what I’m not going to be looking at, dancing as the city comes apart? You!”

Spread

Following the event, on January 1st, 2022, Cohen noted he was "overserved" during the broadcast (shown below).[1]

By that point, Cohen's rant had begun spreading on social media, as people marveled about the content of Cohen's rant and his level of intoxication. User @JoshNSanchez[2] tweeted, "Andy Cohen drunkenly starting the year by smoking that Bill de Blasio pack is one of the funniest things I’ve seen on TV," gaining over 1,100 retweets and 7,000 likes (shown below, left). User @WesReynolds1[3] tweeted, "Andy Cohen just dragged Bill DeBlasio up and down 7th Avenue," gaining over 3,000 retweets and 12,000 likes (shown below, right).

Other Cohen moments of the evening that caught social media attention were a brief rant on Mark Zuckerberg and a rant on the band Journey performing without their late, original lead singer, Steve Perry. Twitter user @patrioticmamaaa posted a video of the Zuckerberg rant, while user @MeAndMyRemote posted the Journey rant (shown below).

Multiple clips of Andy Cohen were also posted to TikTok around New Year's Day 2022 as well.
