#DroptheB, also known as Operation Geschlecht, is a troll hashtag campaign orchestrated by 4chan users to exclude bi-sexuals from the initialism LGBT ostensibly in opposition to the concept of a gender binary.

Origin

On June 7th, 2018, posts encouraging viewers to spread the hashtag #droptheB along with images captioned with the statement "There are more than two genders" were submitted to the "/pol/": (politics) board on 4chan (shown below).^[1]

Spread

On June 15th, Twitter user @iikibiz^[4] posted a tweet about the hashtag, claiming "it's just 4chan alt-righters trying to gaslight you" (shown below). Within 72 hours, the tweet gained over 6,500 likes and 4,200 retweets. That day, the LGBT+ news site Pink News^[6] published an article titled "What is #droptheb and why should you care?", which referred to 4chan as a "right-wing forum."

On June 16th, Twitter user @AmazonChique tweeted screenshots of 4chan threads orchestrating the hashtag (shown below).

That same day, Redditor anorganicbear submitted a #droptheB image to /r/RightwingLGBT^[2] (shown below). On June 18th, The Daily Dot^[5] published an article titled "#droptheB is reportedly another 4chan attempt to cause infighting in the LGBTQ community"
