On September 17th, 2020, a now-deleted Redditor posted a text message screenshot to the /r/meme^[2] subreddit where someone sends the Frog Cheems to another person and calls it "drog," coining the name for the meme, garnering around 30 upvotes in six years.

The "drog" meme spread over the following years, including through an image macro simply adding the word "drog" under the image, which was notably posted by X^[3] user @hourly_shitpost on May 4th, 2025, garnering over 10,000 likes in 10 months.
