Origin

The earliest known iteration of the meme was posted on on March 31st, 2016, when Instagram [3] user @Mikes.Mischeif posted a picture of a "Drive Like Your Kids Live Here" sign above a picture of a blue corvette.

Spread

Variations of the meme quickly became common on the internet, particularly in car and racing communitiesOn November 10th, 2016, the Facebook [1] account 365CarMods posted a two-panel image. The first is a warning sign that reads "Drive Like Your Kids Live Here," which asks drivers to drive slowly. Underneath this image is an image of a car speeding with smoke coming off the tires. They captioned the photo "Hey, Kids, Watch This." The post (shown below, left) received more than 4,600 reactions, 63 comments and 1,300 shares in a year and a half.

On February 19th, 2017, Pirate 4×4[2] user Totalled posted a variation of the meme with a different car (shown below, right) on the Pirate 4×4 messageboard.



On April 19th, 2017, Redditor [4] kop200 posted a variation on the /r/DankMemes subreddit. This post featured a picture of a foot pressing on the gas underneath the sign. The post (shown below) received more than 3,000 points (99% upvoted) and 30 comments.

Five months later, on September 20th, Redditor[5] eyyy_yo posted the meme in the /r/MemeEconomy subreddit. The post received more than 14,800 points (85% upvoted) and 160 comments in 24 hours.
