Origin

In the "The Thing and I" segment of the seventh annual "Treehouse of Horror" episode, Bart discovers his long-lost twin (Named "Hugo"), who has plans to sew bart and himself together in order to regain his sanity. In order to stop that from happening, Dr. Hibbert appears and shows Hugo a mirror to see his own face in, but Hugo notices that the mirror has no reflection, and Hibbert punches Hugo in the face, knocking him out. This scene was uploaded to YouTube by the channel Mostly Simpsons[1] on October 2nd, 2016, where it would go on to gain over 70,000 views in six years (shown below).

Spread

On September 13th, 2016, the Memedroid user YugiBear13[2] uploaded one of the first versions of the meme, which uses a scene in which the character Snake is seen driving a car, then seeing Dr. Hibbert in the reflection of the car window, punching him. This scene itself mimics the stand Hanged Man from the show JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, in which the character only exists in reflective surfaces and attacks outward from them (shown below).

On June 23rd, 2017, the Redditor cole21771[3] uploaded a non-JoJo format, which itself borrowed from the You Got The Dud meme format, with Dr. Hibbert replacing The Dud and proceeding to punch Homer (shown below).
