About

Doomer Girl or Doomerette is a female Wojak character with black hair and dark eyes wearing a black sweatshirt and a choker. A female version of Doomer, the character was created in early January 2020 and gained popularity online, particularly on Facebook and Twitter. In memes, the character usually interacts with Doomer, Trad Girl and other characters, and has appeared in multiple Wojak Comics formats.

In early April 2026, content creator and Twitter / X user mothemi, also known as kawaiiju, made a post about the use of their photos from December 2019 lining up with the creation of the original Doomer Girl meme in January 2020, causing the revelation to go viral and trend on the platform. It is unknown if this was the original inspiration, but the timeline does match up with the inception of the meme, and the style of the character is reflected in the selfies.

Origin

The exact first post featuring Doomer Girl is unknown. Starting on January 2nd, 2020, the first known meme featuring the character was posted by users on Reddit,[1] Twitter[2] and Facebook (shown below).

The illustration referenced a similar meme that featured Doomer and Trad Girl and was posted by various users on Twitter,[3] Reddit[4] and Facebook[5] in the previous days (shown below).

Doomer Girl Inspiration From Mothemi

On April 7th, 2026, content creator and Twitter / X user mothemi (kawaiiju / @kvwviiju) replied to user ilysoli about her natural hair color in a tweet,[8] which then led to Twitter user Tomfuleray replying, "Wait I swear I've seen a wojak based on you," the following day.

On April 10th, mothemi replied to Tomfuleray on Twitter[10] with an image of two of their selfies next to two versions of the Doomer Girl meme, noting that it was because someone made the meme with her pictures in 2020. The tweet received over 1.7 million views, 11,000 likes and 80 retweets in four days.

Shortly after this, mothemi replied to her tweet with another note discussing how her selfie predates the Doomer Girl meme by a month, stating that there's a chance it's based on her and garnering over 1.9 million views, 71,000 likes and 300 replies in a similar timeframe.[11] The tweet reads:

so it turns out my selfie predates doomer girl by a month and circulated on FB during that time and I'm only now learning that there’s a non 0% chance it’s based on me. this is my own personal 9/11

In another tweet[12] on April 10th, 2026, mothemi included the original selfie with a screenshot on her phone, showing the date of December 1st, 2019, roughly a month before the earliest known Doomer Girl meme appeared. The tweet received over 91,500 views and 4,600 likes in four days, with mothemi replying, "I am literally just realising how the dates line up for the first time fuck me."

The discussion about mothemi's potential inspiration of the meme trended on X / Twitter on April 10th, 2026.[13]

Following this, Know Your Meme reached out to mothemi and inquired further about the claims, verifying that she posted one of the selfies (shown below, top) used in the example Doomer Girl meme on her personal Instagram (which has since been privated) on November 3rd, 2019, with the other (shown below, bottom) posted on December 1st, 2019. She also stated that they were posted to a now-banned Tumblr account.

Further, mothemi told us that her selfie was crossposted to Reddit, Facebook and 4chan sometime after being shared in December 2019. However, no remaining archives of it were discoverable.

It's unconfirmed whether the claim is true, as the creator of the original meme and their inspiration behind it is unknown. However, mothemi did verify with KYM that her selfies used in early examples of the meme did appear online a month or two before the earliest known appearance of the Doomer Girl meme, and they also look objectively similar to the character, so her images being the inspiration is plausible.
