Don't Worry Mega Man Drops Jan 7th ‼️ Listen !! I Was Never Book Smart I'm Money Smart refers to a TikTok video posted by rapper and TikToker Jay Eazy (@jayeazywhat) for his then-upcoming song "Mega Man" which was supposed to release on January 7th, 2023. The video became a meme in late 2023, when a Super Mario RPG iteration surfaced on X. The trend was then widely popularized by Instagram user @nass_is_openly_a_pikmin who posted a series of voiceover parodies using the lyrics and words from the video. The parodies caused viral discourse on X and more reposts on TikTok.

Origin

On January 3rd, 2023, TikToker^[1] @jayeazywhat posted a video in which he announced that his song "Mega Man" was going to drop on January 7th. At the beginning of the video, another man is seen smashing an electronic board. Jay Eazy stopped the man, told him not to worry and then started rapping his song while running towards the camera. Over the course of eight months, the video received roughly 590,800 plays and 49,600 likes (shown below).

On June 27th, 2023, X^[2] user @getanewcomputer posted a video that set Jay Eazy's video and lyrics to the tune of Super Mario RPG song for the Forest Maze level. The video gained roughly 8,600 likes in three months (shown below). @getanewcomputer also uploaded the video to their YouTube^[3] catwisp on the same day.

On July 17th, 2023, Instagram^[4] user @nass_is_openly_a_pikmin posted a video using the Jay Eazy video, replacing "Mega Man" with the title card music for the The Fairly Oddparents episode "Crock Blocked."^[5] The video gained roughly 2,800 likes in two months (shown below, left). Also on July 17th, Instagram^[6]^[7] user @nass_is_openly_a_pikmin posted two more videos in which he voiced over Jay Eazy's video. The more viral of the two gained roughly 1,600 likes in two months and referenced the Super Mario RPG version (shown below, right).

Instagram's @nass_is_openly_a_pikmin continued to upload iterations going into August and September 2023. Then, on September 2nd, X^[8] user @candylovingchop reposted @nass_is_openly_a_pikmin's July 17th post,^[7] writing, "This song is so badass," gaining roughly 22,700 likes in four days (shown below).

@nass_is_openly_a_pikmin then posted more iterations, such as one to Instagram^[9] on September 5th which was to the tune of "Up Where We Belong" by Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker.^[10] The post gained roughly 3,700 likes in a day and was quickly reposted by X^[11] user @Kumesicle on September 5th, where it gained roughly 13,000 likes in a day.
