About

Donald Trump's President Rouhani Tweet refers to a tweet made by Donald Trump addressing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in all-capital letters threatening him and his country after the leader gave a speech saying the United States should not "play with the lion's tail," and that America should know "war with Iran would be the mother of all wars." Trump's all-capital letters response was parodied as a copypasta and phrasal template on Twitter after it was posted.

Origin

On July 23rd, 2018, Donald Trump[1] responded to a speech by Iranian President
Hassan Rouhani in which he said "America should know that peace with Iran is the mother of all peace, and war with Iran is the mother of all wars" by tweeting:

To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!

Spread

Immediately after the tweet was posted, Twitter users began parodying it. One particularly popular strand of parodies was replacing Trump's all-caps message with song lyrics. Some popular examples of Tweets like this include a tweet by @Zackbornstein that used "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley that gained over 3,500 retweets (shown below, left). User @thelindsayellis quoted "Wannabe" by The Spice Girls, gaining over 3,400 retweets (shown below, right). The lyrics parodies were covered by Twitter Moments.[2]

The tweet was also posted to Reddit's /r/copypasta,[3] where it gained over 1,200 points. There, it was compared to the Navy SEAL Copypasta (shown below, top). Former Jersey Shore cast member Vinny Guadagnino posted a copypasta from that show, gaining over 6,600 retweets and 20,000 likes (shown below, bottom).
