Origin
On October 20th, 2018, Twitter user @CarpeDonktum tweeted, "New Time Magazine Cover Animated!" which features a campaign signs with future years on them (shown below). The tweet gained over 2,200 likes and 800 retweets in a year and a half.
Precursor
On October 22. 2018, TIME Magazine[1] published an issue illustrating that "Trumpism" will outlive Trump. On May 20th, 2019, Twitter user @atrupar reposted audio at a Trump rally in which "Trump jokes about serving as many as 5 terms as president' (shown below). The tweet garnered over 700 likes and 500 retweets in a month.
Spread
On June 21st, 2019, Donald Trump tweeted @CarpeDonktum's original video (shown below). His tweet accumulated over 291,600 likes and 76,400 retweets in a day.
That same day, various Twitter users responded negatively to the post. Twitter user @daisychen0 tweeted an edit of the video featuring Donald Trump dressed like a clown. The tweet gained over 17,800 likes and 2,900 retweets in a day. On June 22nd, 2019, in an interview with Newsweek[2] Trump supporter @CarpeDonktum replied to the backlash saying "Jokes are jokes and if you want to freak out about jokes, then I don't know there's anything I can say to calm you down about it."
