Dole Dippers / Your X, Sir

About

Dole Dippers is an animated advertisement for the ice cream Dole Dippers, which features two wealthy ape women seated by the pool that are delivered a plate of the frozen snack by their penguin servant. Online, the commercial has spawned various remix videos, image macros and photoshops. In 2019, Your X, Retard and Your X, Sir snowclones / exploitables received spread, with the memes utilizing the images of Dole Dipper penguin and The Fresh-Prince of Bel-Air character Geoffrey holding a tray.

Origin

On July 28th, 2015, the animation studio Luma uploaded^[1] a commercial commissioned by Dole for their Dole Dippers brand of ice cream (shown below). In the animated advertisement, a penguin servant delivers a silver platter of frozen, chocolate-covered banana snacks to a pair of primates sunbathing by a pool.

Prior to December 9th, 2016, iFunny user kong_is_life posted a poop remix of the commercial (original post no longer available). On December 9th, YouTube user^[2] Nick Sexton reuploaded the video as "🅱️ole 🅱️ippers" (shown below). The reupload received over 179,000 views in four years.

On September 18th, 2017, YouTuber^[3] Alex Kooper uploaded a similar remix of the commercial.

Prior to October 8th, 2017,^[4] an unknown user posted a still image of the penguin holding a tray captioned "Your Dole Dippers, Retard." The post received viral spread online, with October 20th, 2017, repost by Redditor^[5] vietcongsurvivor1986 marking the earliest available version of the image (shown below, left). On October 8th, 2017, YouTuber^[6] Dank Conspiracy Nut uploaded a dubbed edit inspired by the meme, with a person making ape noises in the background (shown below, right).

The meme received further spread in late 2017; for example, on October 19th, Redditor^[7] TheButterBread submitted a deep-fried image macro featuring the penguin from the commercial to /r/dankmemes (shown below, left). On October 28th, Redditor^[8] i_dont_have-reddit submitted a Loss edit featuring scenes from the Dole Dippers commercial to /r/lossedits (shown below, right).

Your X, Retard / Your X, Sir

Starting in January 2019, a still image of Dole Dippers penguin holding a tray resurged in snowclone / exploitable memes, usually captioned "Your X, Retard" or in a similar fashion. On January 25th, 2019, Redditor^[9] The_Grox_Will_Rise posted the earliest known derivative of the original snowclone, gaining over 240 upvotes in /r/COMPLETEARACHY (shown below)

The snowclone format received further spread in the following year, with viral versions being posted on Reddit, iFunny and Twitter (examples shown below).

Starting in mid-December 2019, a still image of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air character Geoffrey Butler carrying a tray (originally from episode 17 "Community Action" of season two) found similar use. The earliest found repost of the first known meme utilizing the still image was made on December 15th in /r/memes^[10] (shown below; original author unknown), being reposted in /r/okbuddyretard,^[11] on iFunny^[12] and Tumblr^[13] in the following days.
