About
Dogwifhat refers to a photograph of a Shiba Inu dog in a woven beanie. In late December 2019, edits of the image in which various logos and images were put onto the beanie gained significant popularity on Twitter as profile pictures, primarily among eSports organizations and personalities, with the hashtags #dogwifhat and #dogwifhatgang gaining popularity.
Origin
On November 17th, 2018, Instagram[22] user bangdddd posted four photographs of their Shiba Inu dog Achi wearing a pink woven beanie (shown below). The post accumulated over 6,900 likes in six years.
On November 6th, 2019, professional Fortnite player issa set his Twitter profile picture to the third photograph from the set (shown below), with Twitter user @Vapurly commenting "Dogwifhat."[15]
On November 20th, Fortnite streamer Vraxito changed his Twitter profile picture to the photograph.[16] On the same day, issa tweeted[17] "dogwifhat taking over" (shown below, left). Also on the same day, Fortnite player aqua tweeted[18] "everyone join the dogwifhat gang," with the tweet receiving over 80 retweets and 2,400 likes (shown below, right).
Spread
Between November 20th and December 6th, a number of Twitter users, particularly Fortnite and Rocket League players, changed their Twitter[19][20] profile pictures to the images of the dog.
On December 6th, 2019, Rocket League player Spoodah[1] set the image as his Twitter profile picture (shown below, left), announcing the start of a "dog wif hat movement." As of December 23rd, Twitter users and Rocket League players @nxtsabo,[2] @difeze,[3] @nayzerrl,[4] @GamingReplayZ,[5] @MarcO_Rondeau,[6] @Quit37323142[21] and others put the image as their profile pictures (shown below, right).
On December 23rd, Rocket League player CR1MS1C posted a Woman Yelling at a Cat meme to Twitter,[7] joking about a number of users in the Rocket League community setting edits of the image as their profile pictures (shown below, left). Starting on December 24th, CR1MS1C[8][9][10] created edits of the image, applying various eSports logos, memes and other images to the beanie (examples shown below).
Starting on December 25th, various Twitter users made "how many retweets" posts, daring various eSports organizations to use the images as their profile pictures (examples shown below). Starting on December 26, major eSports organizations such as Rogue,[11] G2esports[12] and Cloud9[13] set edits of the image as their profile pictures (shown below). On December 27th, YouTuber KEEMSTAR[14] set an edit of the image as his Twitter profile picture (shown below, right).
In the following days, multiple eSports organizations and personalities used the images for their Twitter profile pictures, with hashtags #dogwifhat and #dogwifhatgang also gaining spread.

Dogwifhat ($WIF) is a Solana-based meme coin inspired by the meme of the same name. Launched in November 2023 and listed on Binance in March 2024, Dogwifhat ranked in the top 40 cryptocurrencies by market cap in 2024. Holders of the cryptocurrency have actively used the eponymous meme to promote it.
