Dog Balancing Three Cups of Water, also known as Dog Balancing Water, refers to a viral video turned reaction video of a brown dog holding and balancing three plastic cups (glasses) of water while shaking and walking towards the camera. The dog has a wooden plank in its mouth with a cup on either end and one cup on its head. The video was originally posted to Douyin (Chinese TikTok) in late 2023. It became increasingly common on Twitter / X in 2024, used as a reaction video to portray navigating a dicey situation that requires precision.
Origin
Sometime on or before November 13th, 2023, Douyin[1] user @倧ι posted a video of his three-year-old dog ε°Όε‘ (Nika) balancing three cups of water and walking towards the camera. The video gained reposts on Douyin[2] in the following days.
On November 13th, 2024, TikToker[3] @petpets1903 reposted the video, receiving over 37.4 million plays and 5.7 million likes in five months (shown below).
Also on November 13th, 2023, Instagram[4] user @dripfate posted the video receiving over 1.4 million likes during the same timeframe.
Spread
On November 14th, 2023, TikToker[5] @elmataabuela3090 posted a Zawg meme with the video, gaining over 25,800 plays and 1,600 likes in five months (shown below, left).
On November 18th, 2023, TikToker[6] @thetkidd posted the video with the DnB Remix remix of "Disease" by Trax, adding text reading, "Dog balances fucking water." Over five months, the TikTok gained roughly 5.3 million plays and 998,700 likes (shown below, right).
On December 10th, 2023, X[7] user @cape71nha tweeted the video, captioned, "quando ela tem borderline, bipolaridade, depressao, ansiedade e pai ausente," which in English reads, "when she has borderline, bipolar, depression, anxiety and an absent father." The post earned over 37,000 likes in four months (shown below).
Going into early 2024, the video continued to amass usage on X, evident in a post shared by X[8] user @urljuicebox on March 18th, 2024, who said, "The way dogs are literally wired to enjoy having shit to do and this dog happy as hell is SENDINGGGGGG ME," receiving over 122,000 likes in three weeks (shown below).
