On April 12th, 2012, YouTuber[1] Tobuscus posted a music video for an original Minecraft fan song titled "I CAN SWING MY SWORD!," garnering over 94 million views in 12 years (shown below).

The video inspired numerous covers and memes throughout the 2010s. For example, on April 16th, 2012, YouTuber[2] TheMatBK posted a video in which the song is played using Minecraft note blocks, garnering over 2.6 million views in 12 years. On August 13th, YouTuber[3] Ash Duckworth posted a cover of the song that gained over 3.5 million views in a similar timeframe (shown below).

2024 Resurgence

On July 19th, 2024, TikToker[4] @entertaingithinklol reposted the video with the caption, "Best song ever?" garnering over 200,000 views in a month. The song and music video became the subject of memes that August. Some of the most viral memes use a format similar to red circle perpetrators and name soundalike memes in which the character from the music video appears in a red circle pointing at another character as the song plays.

For example, on August 13th, 2024, TikToker[5] @rare_.1303 posted a meme placing the song over a portion of a Max Gilardi video, garnering over 295,000 views in a week (shown below).

On August 16th, TikToker[6] @ohonb2 posted a video following the same format using a scene from Regular Show, garnering over 350,000 views in five days (shown below).
