"Do You Have Money?" Flowchart refers to a series of flowchart buyer's guide memes in which every single choice leads to advice to buy a certain product, most often a particular video game. The exploitable meme format has been used since April 2021, primarily on Reddit.
The origin of the flowchart is currently unknown. On April 18th, 2021, Redditor angery_rowlet posted the earliest found meme based on the format, a humorous buyer's guide flowchart in which every choice leads to a recommendation to buy the video game Hollow Knight. The post (shown below) received over 2,400 upvotes in the /r/HollowKnightMemes[1] subreddit in four years.
On April 19th, 2021, Redditor Jmmtrain posted an IKEA BLÅHAJ Shark meme based on the flowchart that garnered over 8,300 upvotes in the /r/BLAHAJ[2] subreddit in four years.
On April 27th, 2021, Redditor DraftyMonkey posted a Gromit Mug meme based on the format that received over 39,000 upvotes in the /r/memes[3] subreddit in four years (shown below). Following the post, the format achieved viral popularity on Reddit in late April 2021.
In the following years, the flowchart saw continued use online, with memes based on the format appearing on Reddit, X / Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and other sites.
