About
Divorced Dad Rock is an internet slang term most often used to define rock, hard rock and nu-metal bands that were popular in the late '90s and mid-2000s through the early 2010s, which are perceived to be stereotypically listened to by divorced dads. While the term was first used online as early as 2012, it became popularized in reference to bands including Stain'd, Hinder, Nickelback and Linkin Park in 2022, becoming a commonly used term on TikTok in early 2023. The term is a spin on the genre "dad rock," encompassing a wide range of rock and metal bands from as early as the 1970s to the early 1990s. Many bands considered "divorced dad rock" are also considered "butt rock," meaning rock and hard rock bands lacking artistic merit.
