divoC is "Covid," the medical name for the Coronavirus, spelled backwards. Upon discovering this, Twitter users joked about how "divoc" sounds like "da fuck?" and made jokes akin to "What divoc is going on?"
Origin
On March 12th, 2020, Twitter user @ravaskar[1] posted, "COVID spelt backwards is DIVOC and what DIVOC going on," gaining over 182,000 retweets and 750,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
The tweet led many to adopt the joke. For example, user @bobbyshitposts[2] tweeted, "my ex got this whole covid-19 thing backwards cuz im positive i told her to stay divoc away from me," gaining over 700 retweets and 5,900 likes (shown below, left). User @liveshynediie[3] posted, "get divoC away from me #2sick," gaining over 270 retweets and 500 likes (shown below, right).
Others joked that "divoC" sounds like "Divock," the first name of Liverpool soccer player Divock Origi. For example, Twitter users TheKop_com[4] and @nufcflynn[5] both made jokes about the pun (shown below). Jokes were covered by StayHipp.[6]
