Distance Dance is a TikTok dance created by popular TikTok star Charli D'Amelio in partnership with Procter & Gamble to urge teens to stay home during the coronavirus in March 2020. The dance is set to the song "Big Ups" by Jordyn and Nic Da Kid featuring Yung Nnelg.
Origin
On March 24th, 2020, TikToker @charlidamelio uploaded her dance video with the caption, "Stay home & do the #distancedance . Tag me & the hashtag in your video. P&G will donate to Feeding America & Matthew 25 for the first 3M videos #pgpartner" (shown below). The video garnered over 1.6 million likes in a day.
Spread
On March 25, 2020, TikToker @jalaiahharmon uploaded a video of herself doing the distance dance and garnered over 30,000 likes that day (shown below, left). That day, millions of TikTokers performed the dance and uploaded their videos including @tik.toker.tutorials and @keonisalvador who received over 3,000 likes each in a matter of hours (shown below, right). That day, Gov. Mike De Wine announced on Twitter[2] that Proctor and Gamble reached their goal of three million posts. Insider[1] published an article on the dance.
