About

#DisneyAdaptPercyJackson is a hashtag associated with the continued demand of the re-adaptation of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson young adult fantasy series, possibly for Disney+.

Origin

Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson franchise started on July 1, 2005 with the publication of The Lightning Thief. 20th Century Fox released the film adaptation of the first, directed by Chris Columbus of Harry Potter fame, in 2010 in the United States, Canada and in the United Kingdom on February 12 and in Australia on February 11. The second film in the series, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, was released on August 7, 2013. The third film, Percy Jackson: Titan's Curse, was planned but never made it to production due to lackluster reviews. On September 30, 2019, We Got This Covered announced that a television adaptation of the series for streaming is in development[1].

Since then, many fans start making trends of the hashtag #DisneyAdaptPercyJackson, demanding Disney to reboot[2][4], and on December 12, 2019, author Rick Riordan revealed on Twitter that he had begun meeting with Disney about a possible adaptation, but stated that it was "way too early to know what if anything might happen", but said he would "keep at it".[3]
