Dingdong Dantes Puns refer to a series of photoshopped images of Filipino actor and entertainer Jose Sixto Raphael "Dingdong" Gonzalez Dantes III which illustrate puns involving his name. The photoshops first emerged on Facebook in January 2020 and spread to Twitter.

Origin

On January 4th, 2020, Facebook^[1] user Charles Darwin Ariño an image in which Danes was edited into a dental office with the caption "Dingdong Dentist" (shown below). The posted gained over 17,000 shares, 7,700 reacts and 2,400 comments in three days.

Spread

On January 5th, 2020, Facebook^[2] users continued to post images for their puns. Facebook user Aaron Marc posted "Dingdong Dancesteps" with an image that gained over 27,000 shares, 11,000 reacts and 2,800 comments in two days (shown below, left). On January 6th, Facebook^[3] user Gabriel Alanis posted an image of Dantes as a priest with the caption "Dingdong Godbless" and accumulated over 23,000 shares, 12,000 reacts and 3,400 comments in a day (shown below, right).

That same day, Facebook^[4] user David Carlo Lucenara posted a photoshopped image of Dantes finishing an exam with the caption "Dingdong DoneTest" which received over 48,000 shares, 26,000 likes and 5,000 comments in a day. On Twitter,^[5] Dantes tweeted Lucenara's image as his favorite saying, "And the winner is….. Dingdong DoneTest! 🤣🤣🤣" (shown below), The tweet gained over 150,100 likes and 21,400 retweets in a day.
