Diary 30: Superman Is Coming to School and Diary 31: Humiliation are two viral videos posted by YouTuber Daxflame in March 2007, the first in which he shares his excitement to go to school in a Superman costume to impress a girl named Sophia, the second in which he explains that wearing the costume resulted in the most humiliating day of his life. The videos went viral over the following years and their thumbnails juxtaposed next to one another became the subject of memes, including photoshops and image macros.
Origin
On March 2nd, 2007, YouTuber[1] Daxflame uploaded a vlog titled, "Diary 30: Superman Is Coming to School." In the video, Dax enthusiastically explains how he's planning to go to school in a Superman costume, saying a girl named Sophia will be able to see his muscles in it and that he'll be going out with her after today. The video gained over 8.2 million views in 16 years (shown below, left). Later that day, Dax uploaded another video to YouTube[2] titled "Diary 31: Humiliation" where he shares regrets about wearing the costume to school, saying it was the most embarrassing day of his life and that "celebrity day" was the next Friday. The video gained over 6.1 million views in the same span of time (shown below, right).

The videos, especially their thumbnails juxtaposed next to one another, became the subject of memes over the following years. On October 21st, 2016, Redditor blindwombat posted the two thumbnails side-by-side to /r/me_irl,[3] garnering over 2,200 upvotes in seven years (shown below).
On October 30th, 2020, Daxflame reacted to the viral videos on YouTube,[4] garnering over 1.2 million views in just over two years (shown below).
On April 30th, 2021, TikToker[5] @rainbow_.uwu posted a Pedro Pascal laughing then crying meme under the thumbnails, garnering over 2 million views in three years. On June 10th, TikToker[6] @thedaxflame, the official account of Daxflame, posted a reaction to the video asking for the origin of the Pedro Pascal meme, garnering over 3.4 million views in the same rough span of time (shown below).
On July 12th, 2022, TikToker[7] @vpstt posted a video showing both thumbnails, garnering over a million views in seven months. On July 13th, @thedaxflame duetted the video on TikTok[8] after viewers believed he was dead, confirming he's alive, garnering over 1.3 million views in the same span of time (shown below).
On September 9th, iFunny user illtakethesideorderofmeme posted a photoshopped meme using the thumbnails that garnered over 3,300 smiles in five months (shown below).
