About

Devil May Cry May Calendar or DMC May Calendar refers to a series of photoshops in which the cover images of Devil May Cry video games are edited into calendar sheets for May, usually achieved the words "devil" and "cry" edited out. Following the virality of the initial edits that used the covers for the currently released Devil May Cry through Devil May Cry 5, the format developed further as users on Facebook and Reddit created edits based on covers for video games, movies and other media.

Origin

In May 2024, a humorous image that removed the number and the words "Devil" and "Cry" off the cover of the 2019 video game Devil May Cry 5, only leaving "May" in it, was circulated online[1] (HD version posted[3] in 2025 shown below).

A version that left the number in it was posted by several users on May 5th, 2024.[2] While the original authors of these edits are unknown, the earliest discovered post was made by Redditor 777Sike0 on May 2nd, 2024.

On May 1st, 2025, multiple users on X, Facebook and Reddit reposted the image, with several of the posts going viral.

For example, a post by Facebook[4] user Shaye Lennon in The Real Devil May Cry Unity community received over 17,000 reactions and 9,600 shares in two weeks. A post by X[5] user @Epicartworks gained over 6,000 reposts and 41,000 likes in the same period.

Spread

Starting on May 1st, 2025, Facebook[6][7][8][9] user Jacob Calayag posted edits of cover images for Devil May Cry games, leaving only the word "May" and the number in to match the day the image was posted on. The edits went viral in the The Real Devil May Cry Unity community shortly after.

For example, on May 3rd, the Facebook user posted the edited cover art for Devil May Cry 3, with the edit (shown below) gaining over 19,000 reactions and 11,000 shares in 11 days.

In the following days, more community users joined in on the trend, posting edits of Devil May Cry images and later original memes that combined various media with numbers in the title with DMC characters and the word "May" from the covers of DMC games.

For instance, on May 7th, 2025, artist Moboolyedits posted a "May 7" mockup that garnered over 19,000 reactions and 6,800 shares on Facebook[10] in one week (shown below).

Following the initial spread of the format in the group in early May 2025, the meme spread further to Reddit and X, where users reposted existing edits and shared original ones.

For example, on May 8th, 2025, X[11] user @ZERODMC5 posted an edit based on Mario Kart 8 that received over 2,400 reposts and 15,000 likes in six days (shown below).
