Deus Está Triste Com Tanto Violência is an exploitable image macro of a Brazilian drawing of a boy with his belly showing and a speech bubble saying, "God is sad with so much violence." The religious comic book called Turma do Dudão (Dudu's Gang in English) went viral in June 2020 with the phrasal template "Deus está triste com tanta X" being recaptioned in various memes on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram over the following years. The main character Dudão has also been the subject of fan art and other drawings.

Origin

Turma do Dudão^[1] is a Brazilian religious comic book for kids, created in 1992 by Pastor Eduardo Samuel da Silva and Jairo Alves da Silva. The comic is inspired by Monica's Gang, a popular Brazilian comic book. On June 7th, 2020, the Facebook^[2] meme page @crentenanet2.0 posted the first issue of the Turma do Dudão comic (shown below), which garnered around 580 likes and 880 shares in three years.

On June 26th, 2020, Twitter^[3] user @galadrieldoidao posted one of the earliest images of Dudão from the comic book, saying "Deus está triste com tanta violência," which translates as "God is sad with so much violence." The post (shown below) received roughly 20 likes and two retweets in three years.

Spread

On June 27th, 2020, Memedroid^[4] user @Patrick_dos_memes posted a recaptioned version of the "God is sad with so much violence" meme, replacing "violence" with "e-girls." The post (shown below, left) garnered over 400 reactions in three years. On August 28th, 2022, Twitter^[5] user @CaioDan posted a version of the meme saying "God is sad with so many liberals," which amassed over 26,700 likes and 6,700 retweets in a year.

Twitter^[6] user @luarchav posted on December 15th, 2021, the image macro (shown below, left) recaptioned with the phrase "God is sad with so many doll movies," which garnered around 12,000 likes and 2,000 retweets in two years. On April 5th, 2023, Twitter^[7] user @OBQDC posted a recaptioned version of the meme (shown below, right) saying "God is sad with so many Artificial Intelligences," which received over 3,000 likes and 675 retweets in four months.
