Derrick White Hairline refers to a recurring gag and series of jokes and memes towards American professional basketball player Derrick White for his perceived receding hairline. Sports fans have been sharing memes and videos of people making fun of Derrick's hairline and forehead since July 2019 on Reddit, Twitter / X and TikTok, among other platforms.
The earliest online mention of Derrick White's hairline was posted by Redditor[1] mikemikemike247 on July 28th, 2019. The post (seen below, left) features a photoshopped image of White's receding hairline and forehead, which amassed more than 300 upvotes and 25 comments in five years.
White's hairline gained momentum as a joke and meme source on December 27th, 2022, after a picture of him was shared online, with many users captioning it, "Derrick White’s hairline did a huge step back," like the Facebook[2] meme page basketballforever's post (seen below, right).
Jokes about Derrick's receding hairline continued over the years, as YouTube[3] page House of Highlights shared a video on April 19th, 2023, of retired basketball players Shaquille O'Neal and Chuck Barkley roasting "Derrick White's hairline" (seen below, left), which amassed more than 5 million views 83,000 likes in a year.
On July 3rd, the YouTube[4] page @DailySportsDosage uploaded a video alleging the "internet bullied Derrick White into cutting his hair" after the memes joking about his receding hairline trended online. The video (seen below, right) received roughly 46,000 views and 1,800 likes in a year.
