Denied Check refers to a series of TikTok videos in which the user lists the colleges that denied them acceptance which became popular in October 2019. The videos, which begins with the words "denied check," a kin to rich boy check, then uses a cover of "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion during in the background while listing universities.
Origin
On October 29th, 2019, TikTok user @420___69 uploaded the sound clip and started the trend of sharing their list of schools (shown below). The video gained over 8,000 likes in two months.
Spread
On November 26th, 2019, TikToker @lantie uploaded a popular iteration which received over 120,200 likes in a months. On December 12th, @finessafinessin uploaded one in which she cries over getting denied acceptance to Amherst College (shown below, right). The video garnered over 14,800 likes in six days.
On December 17th, Twitter user @TaylorLorenz uploaded a thread of "denied check" TikToks with the caption, "The “denied check” tiktoks are honestly great even though I wish all these tiktokking teens got into their dream schools!" (shown below). The tweet gained over 250 likes in a day.
