About
Dekh Raha Hai Vinod, also known as Dekh Raha Hai Binod, is an exploitable image macro and phrasal template that emerged out of a screenshot from the second season of the Indian television show Panchayat on Amazon. The meme features an interaction between the characters named Bhushan (aka Banrakas), Vinod and Abhishek. Bhushan questions Abhishek about road repairs only to receive a convoluted answer rife with unfamiliar English words. Bhushan then delivers the line, "Dekh raha hai vinod… angrezi bol-bol ke kaise baat ko ghumaya jaata hai," which loosely translates to "Vinod is watching… how one can speak English in order to twist the meaning of words." After the season premiered on May 18th, 2022, internet users in India used the screenshot as a prompt to deliver their sarcastic takes on various opinions.

The earliest known upload of the scene in question is from May 24th, 2022, on the YouTube[1] channel Web Series clips. The video has gathered approximately 50,000 views in two months (seen below).
The earliest known instance of the screencap being used as a meme is from the Instagram account @rvjinsta[2] on June 16th, 2022. The caption reads "Me to my friend after seeing my sports teacher and English ma'am's chemistry; dekh raha hai Vinod kaise English bol-bolke ladki ko pataya jaata hai," the latter half of which loosely translates to "Vinod is watching how speaking English can help with wooing women." The post gathered 67,000 likes over the course of two months (seen below).
The meme quickly spread to other Indian Instagram meme accounts, with user @gs_hub_adda[3] posting the screencap on June 19th alongside the caption "Dekh raha hai Vinod… kaise bio mein IAS likh kar 16 saal mein hi IAS bana jaata hai," which loosely translates to "Vinod is watching… how writing "IAS" in the bio as a 16-year-old makes one an IAS officer." The meme, which has its likes hidden, refers to how IAS (Indian Administrative Services) aspirants often use the acronym in their social media bios as a misleading indicator (seen below).
The most widely used meme template can be accredited to a blank template posted by Amazon Prime Video's Indian Twitter page, @PrimeVideoIN, on July 12th, 2022.[4] The caption reads, "Dekh raha hai binod? kaise meme ke naam par khaali template tweet kiya jaa raha hai," which translates to "Are you watching Vinod? How a blank template is being posted in the name of making memes." The post gathered 435 likes in three weeks and quickly became the base template for newer iterations of the meme going forward (seen below).
