On February 17th, 2012, Disney Channel premiered the movie Radio Rebel featuring actress Debby Ryan playing Tara, an introvert who plays a confident radio jockey at her school. In one particular scene, Ryan gives a cringe smirk towards a band member while in the middle of a crowd. The moment was posted on YouTube[1] by user @yvestheestallion in a video titled "Debby Ryan's radio rebel smirk," which amassed over 541,000 views and 8,100 likes in four years.

Debby Ryan's clip resurfaced as a meme a day earlier than the yvestheestallion YouTube video thanks to an X[2] post uploaded by user @hoemoticon on May 2nd, 2020, who shared the scene paired with the caption, "15 y/o me at a concert in the crowd acting different from the others so my fav can notice me." The tweet (shown below) amassed more than 63,000 likes and 15,000 retweets in four years.

On November 4th, 2020, X[3] user @smackinpackin compared Debby Ryan's smirk (shown below, left) with a picture of Donald Trump, which amassed more than 44 likes in four years.
