About

Death Parade Opening Parodies refers to a number of Anime opening parodies based around the first opening to the 2015 anime series Death Parade, Flyers, by Japanese band BRADIO. After the series first premiered, the song gained popularity online due to it's upbeat nature, in contrast to that of the show, spawning many parodies.

Origin

The parodies originate from the opening to the 2015 anime drama, Death Parade, which was animated by Studio Madhouse and started airing on January 9th, 2015. The show stars Decim, a bartender at the bar "Quindecim", which acts as a purgatory to help decide whether people should go to heaven or hell, forcing customers to play a game in order to determine who goes where. The opening to the show, Flyers, sung by Japanese indie rock band BRADIO (Shown Below), was first posted to YouTube by YouTuber DeathParadeOfficial[1], and has gained over 1,600,000 views as of March 2015.

Spread

After the opening first aired, many different fan art parodies were created based on the opening pose featuring all the characters, using characters from a number of different series to replace those of Death Parade. The earliest known parody was posted to Tumblr by user Reddlire on January 26, 2015, featuring the characters of Eren and Levi of Attack on Titan (shown below, left)[2]. On Pixiv, the earliest known parody was posted on February 4 by user tk8, this time featuring the character of Takeuchi from the anime Idolm@ster: Cinderella Girls (shown below, right)[3].

In response to the popularity surrounding the opening to Death Parade, BRADIO, the band who performed the show's theme song, created their own live action parody of the opening (shown below), which they posted to their official YouTube channel[4] on February 18. as of March 2015, the video has over 200,000 views.
