Death and the Dog, also known as It Is Time to Go and Was I a Good Boy?, is a webcomic by artist seebangnow showing personified Death leading a dog into the afterlife and praising it for "being the best". Online, the comic has been used to commemorate the passing of famous individuals in a similar manner to Meme Heaven exploitable.

Origin

On January 28th, 2018, artist seebangnow (xibang) posted a four-panel webcomic titled "Death and the Dog" on social media. The post gained over 13,000 likes on Instagram[1], 8,500 upvotes in /r/comics[2] subreddit and 103,000 upvotes in /r/wholesomememes[3] subreddit in one year.



Spread

In the following weeks, the comic gained popularity on Reddit as an exploitable. On February 3rd, 2018, Redditor[4] pugsnotdrugs10 posted one of the earliest edits of the comic featuring character Sayori from Doki Doki Literature Club. The post gained over 500 upvotes in six months.



The exploitable saw consistent use through 2018 and 2019, with edits often following deaths of popular individuals. Additionally, versions of the comic with replaced text have also been as a Things I Don't Like memes.
