Dear Kitten is a series of TikTok parodies based off of "Friskies and Buzzfeed present Dear Kitten" advertisements.

Origin

On June 5th, 2014, BuzzfeedVideo uploaded the first Dear Kitten advertisement to YouTube (shown below). The advertisement has gained over 30 million views and 347,000 likes in five years. "Friskies and Buzzfeed present Dear Kitten"^[1] has uploaded 12 more videos to the series. The series uses Ze Frank's^[2] voice as the older cat guiding the kitten through the ins and outs of their new home.

Spread

Tik Tok users began uploading short soundclips from the advertisements to feature in videos of their own cats. On December 11th, 2018 @theregalking uploaded one of the first parodies and audio clips which has been used in only 27 videos in three months (shown below, left). Another soundclip of the Friskies series was added on December 24th, which involved a cats reaction to their owners closing them out of the bedroom (shown below, right). The soundclip, add by user Cheyanne Harris, has been used in over 480 videos.

On December 27, 2018, @D Flicks uploaded anothe sound cip from the series introducing dogs (shown below, left). The video gained 2,500 likes and use in over 200 videos in three months. Another clip involving the cat thinking a thumbtack was a bug was uploaded and used in 7,300 videos in three months. On December 29th, TikTok user @mizukidraws uploaded an animated rendition that gained over 58,700 likes in three months (shown below, right).
