About
Day In The Life Of A True Brexit Geezer refers to a British people meme on TikTok that uses the photo slideshow feature and a sound akin to a 'Day in the Life' vlog of an average British man who supports Brexit, featuring his imagined wife Susan, his "little princess" of a daughter and his son George. The sound's narrator speaks in a heavily British accent over the song "Back in Black" by AC/DC as he describes going to the pub, having a pint, watching football and eating a full English breakfast. The sound was then used similarly to a snowclone as other creators inserted different countries, ethnicities or U.S. states to portray the daily life of a "geezer" akin to their own nationality or hometown.
Origin
On August 12th, 2020, TikToker[12] ollie_salmon posted a parody "Day in the Life" vlog of a U.K. "geezer," humorously outlining the average day of a British man. Over the course of two years, the video received roughly 1.2 million plays and 173,800 likes (shown below).
Roughly two years later, on September 18th, 2022, TikToker[1] smokeplane posted a photo slideshow using the song "Back in Black" by AC/DC as the sound. The slideshow similarly outlined a "Day in the life of a true Brexit geezer" and included 16 photos. Over the course of two months, the slideshow received roughly 1.2 million plays and 107,400 likes.
On October 8th, 2022, TIkToker[2] edo.teacher posted a screen recording of smokeplane's slideshow, narrating each slide in an egregiously British accent. Over the course of one month, the video received roughly 2.3 million plays and 235,000 likes (shown below).
Day in the life of a true Brexit geezer:
Wake up and meet the wife Susan.
My little princess, isn't she beautiful?
Time to take George to football.
Rev up the Bugatti, ye!
Quick stop at Toby's and load up that plate.
Get a pint.
Pitch lookin' lovely today lads.
Just a bit of banter.
Chippy makes a 38-0 (nil) loss better.
Pop down local pride,
Good ol' pie! Look at that!
Susan made dinner, lovely!
Pop down have a couple pints with the lads,
And finish up in the fortress of dreams.
Spread
On October 17th, 2022, TikToker[3] swallzzy used edo.teacher's sound,[4] creating their own video using his narration and portraying their image of a "true Brexit geezer." Over the course of one month, the video received roughly 386,700 plays and 25,700 likes (shown below, left). On October 18th, 2022, TikToker[2] edo.teacher's video was reposted to YouTube,[6] gaining roughly 15,000 views in one month. On October 20th, 2022, TikToker[5] madfut.football7 posted a similar video, gaining roughly 2.3 million plays and 244,800 likes in one month (shown below, right).
As the trend grew, meme creators started to replace the word "Brexit" with signifiers of other nationalities, locations and even pop culture references from TV, movies and video games. For instance, on October 22nd, 2022, TikToker[7] britisheda posted an iteration that referenced characters from the Disney animated series The Owl House, gaining roughly 227,100 plays and 34,900 likes in one month (shown below, left). On October 26th, 2022, TikToker[8] pieckks posted an iteration that added characters from Attack on Titan, gaining roughly 91,400 plays and 14,400 likes in four weeks (shown below, right).
Other reposts and iterations surfaced on YouTube in late October 2022, like one video uploaded by the YouTube[9] channel Footballgirl201 on October 26th, 2022, gaining roughly 16,000 views in four weeks (shown below).
More photo slideshow iterations surfaced on TikTok that referenced many stereotypes of U.S. states. For instance, on November 14th, 2022, TikToker[10] iamattican posted a version about Minnesota, gaining roughly 214,500 plays and 32,200 likes in three days (primary photo shown below, left). On November 15th, 2022, TikToker[11] eco_blog.com posted a version about Texas, gaining roughly 532,400 plays and 79,600 likes in two days (primary photo shown below, right).
