David Harris Jr.'s Plane Rage Bait refers to a series of viral videos and pictures posted by conservative social media user and influencer David Harris Jr. (@DavidJHarrisJr) in which he sports self-designed MAGA or political clothing while seated on a plane in an attempt to trigger other passengers, typically Democrats or liberals. However, in multiple videos posted by him, passengers often walk by him without incident. The video and images he posted with this scenario in the early 2020s (primarily in mid-2024) led to numerous recaption and exploitable edits using them as memes. For instance, a Plane Selfie he took was exploited en masse as creators replaced the words and graphics on his shirt and hat.

Origin

David Harris Jr. is a conservative influencer who has a clothing line with pro-MAGA, pro-Trump clothing. Multiple times, he has filmed himself on planes wearing overtly pro-MAGA clothing. For example, he did so on June 30th, 2021, and the video he posted to Twitter^[1] / X gained over 1,900 retweets and 14,000 likes in three years (shown below).

On June 7th, 2024 he posted a similar video in which he films himself on a plane wearing a shirt that proclaims he's voting for a "convicted felon," referring to Trump, over Joe Biden, and filmed passengers walking past him without incident. The video gained over 200,000 likes on TikTok in six weeks^[2] (shown below).

The video led to mockery online as people interpreted the clip as David Harris Jr. being desperate to try and "trigger the libs" but no one seemed to care. This led multiple Twitter users to recaption the video joking about scenarios in which they desperately wanted others to notice them to no avail.

For example, on July 22nd, 2024, Twitter user @isolatereggie^[4] captioned the video, "When you’re on aux and no is asking what song is this," gaining over 12,000 retweets and 118,000 likes in four days (shown below, left). On July 24th, Twitter user @sabrinaslays1^[3] recaptioned the video, "me wearing my melanie martinez merch in public," gaining over 90 retweets and 730 likes in one day (shown below, right).

On July 24th, Twitter user freakofposts^[5] posted another picture of Harris wearing MAGA gear on a plane, writing, "crying at absolutely no one caring," gaining over 7,000 retweets and 131,000 likes in two days (shown below).
