The David Harris Jr. Plane Selfie refers to a selfie posted by the MAGA plane rage baiter David Harris Jr. seen sitting in an airplane, wearing a white "Make America Great Again" hat and a black pro-Donald Trump T-shirt. The selfie became an exploitable meme template after other videos and photos of Harris Jr. wearing MAGA merch on planes went viral on Twitter / X via his account @DavidJHarrisJr in July 2024. Meme creators recaptioned and reedited the words and imagery on his hat and T-shirt.

Origin

On March 3rd, 2023, X^[1] user @DavidJHarrisJr posted a selfie of himself sitting on an airplane, wearing a white "Make America Great Again" hat and a black T-shirt that showed a pro-Donald Trump graphic reading, "Raised the bar / Failed the bar / Worked at a bar…" He captioned the image, "This San Francisco airplane is loving my hat and shirt! 😂," amassing over 2,600 likes in a year (shown below).

David Harris Jr. became the subject of memes and internet discourse a year later in July 2024 following multiple X^[2][3] posts that used a video of him sitting on a plane, wearing a T-shirt reading, "Joe Biden / Convicted Felon" and greeting people walking by.

Soon after, on July 24th, 2024, X^[4] user @freakofposts reposted the selfie of Harris Jr., captioning it, "crying at absolutely no one caring," receiving over 138,000 likes in five days (shown below).

The tweet received quotes on the day of, like one from X^[5] user @thisisnefertiti on July 24th in which she compared him to a Bored Ape, gaining over 1,900 likes in five days (shown below, left).

Also on July 24th, users started recaptioning and exploiting the selfie, like X^[6] user @rmjroan who added Chappell Roan imagery, gaining over 11,000 likes in five days (shown below, right).

Similarly exploited versions surfaced on X^[7] going into late July 2024. The trend also spread to other social media platforms. For instance, on July 28th, 2024, Instagram^[8] user @slayworldalbania posted a version with an ironic Hawk Tuah hat and a Gegagedigedagedago shirt reading, "Fuck My Stupid Chungus Life," receiving over 8,800 likes in a day (shown below).
