Dancing Barbie Dogs or Dogs Dancing to Ice Spice refers to a series of viral videos of two animated dogs dancing, named Sparkles and Lily, from the 2008 Barbie movie Barbie and the Diamond Castle. The scenes of the dogs dancing on two legs were first uploaded to YouTube in mid-2020 and became popularized on TikTok throughout 2021 and 2023, largely set to the song "In Ha Mood" by Ice Spice.

Origin

In 2008, the direct-to-DVD film Barbie and the Diamond Castle was released. At several points throughout the film, two dog characters, Sparkles and Lily, dance. On April 26th, 2020, YouTuber[1] Barbie Darling posted a compilation of the scenes with the dogs, garnering over 34,000 views in three years. On June 26th, YouTuber[2] Ebru Cengiz posted a compilation of all the scenes in which they dance, garnering over 206,000 views in three years (shown below). One of the earliest known memes to use the dancing dogs was posted by TikToker[3] @barbiefancult on December 15th, 2021, and shows one of the scenes with glitched audio, garnering over 26,000 views in just over a year.

Throughout 2022, the dancing dog clips became increasingly popularized on TikTok. On July 25th, 2022, TikToker[4] @saint_toasty posted a version of the meme in which the dogs dance to "Bad Habit" by Steve Lacy, garnering over 72,000 views in seven months. On December 28th, TikToker[5] @barbiedogsdancing posted an edit of the dogs dancing to "Everlong" by the Foo Fighters, garnering over 1.2 million views in two months (shown below).

Dogs Dancing to Ice Spice

On January 21st, 2023, TikToker[6] @caintrent posted a video of the dogs dancing to Ice Spice's song "In Ha Mood" with a caption about the casino getting an Uno table, garnering over 10 million views in two weeks (shown below).

The meme became increasingly prevalent over the following days, including a green-screen version, often set to the same Ice Spice song. On January 30th, TikToker[7] @untasteful_ posted a meme that garnered over 7.2 million views in a week (shown below, left). On February 2nd, TikToker[8] @hyunlix4eva posted a version of the meme that garnered over 4.2 million views in four days (shown below, right). On February 4th, Twitter[9] user @hayak5wa posted a video of the dogs, writing, "i can’t get those barbie dogs dancing to ice spice out of my head HELP," garnering over 600 likes in two days.
