About

Dancing Alligator refers to a greenscreen video of an animated alligator dancing. It became a viral exploitable template in 2024, trending en masse on TikTok via a CapCut template and the song "Take Me In Your Arms" by Lil Suzy. The videos often had text captions reading, "You're not a dancing alligator," contrasting the template that transformed the person into the Dancing Alligator. The original video of the Dancing Alligator was a "Happy Birthday" video that showed the animal with a background of baked beans. The original greenscreen video was created by YouTuber KAGI GREEN SCREEN.

Origin

On December 22nd, 2020, YouTuber[1] KAGI GREEN SCREEN posted a greenscreen video that showed an animated alligator dancing for roughly nine minutes, receiving over 20,000 views in four years (shown below).

The video's creator is currently unknown. Non-viral reposts shared on TikTok[3][4] the month prior reference a user named @zohcpt who has no videos on their account as of 2024.

In 2024, the Dancing Alligator meme resurfaced when TikTokers started following the "You're not a dancing alligator" format, using the song "Take Me In Your Arms" by Lil Suzy.[5] For instance, on July 11th, TikToker[6] @evantsantes posted a video that used a CapCut template, showing himself transforming into the Dancing Alligator, receiving over 12.8 million plays and 1.8 million likes in a week (shown below).
