Origin

The Daily Mail's TikTok page often posts videos sharing ongoing and breaking news stories using a blue-and-white banner featuring their logo and a call-to-action asking users to go to their site. The banner explains the news story under the logo.

The original version of the Daily Mail CapCut template was purportedly made by a user who goes by Bronji sometimes in late January 2025. It was remade by TikToker @millitansley1 in early February. The CapCut template is meant to replicate the Daily Mail's news banner.

The earliest known example of the meme was posted by TikToker^[1] @zkv23 on January 25th, 2025, reading, "Quebec Prime Minister, François Legault threathens to establish a 25% tariff on maple syrup, Trump is now scared," garnering over over 80,000 views in a week.

The trend was popularized on TikTok in February 2025. For example, on February 1st, 2025, TikToker^[2] @hatefullyalive posted a video using the caption, "Breaking News: 17 year old boy passes away from getting O huzz," garnering over 926,000 views in three days.

Later that day, TikToker^[3] @every1luvsnayla posted a version of the meme reading, "18 yr old Nayla Norman in critical condition after putting her trust in a nigga," garnering over 2.7 million views in three days.

On February 2nd, TikToker^[4] @vietsoy posted a version of the meme captioned, "22-Year-Old Charged with Life in Prison After Playstation Releases His Old Party Chat Audio Recordings," garnering over 2.7 million views in two days.
