Daddy Chill and What The Hell Is Even That? refers to a viral video and audio clip from a 2019 McJuggerNuggets skit where a character named Tippy tells Jeffrey Ridgway Sr. "daddy chill" as he tries to evict a number of people from a party, inciting a response of, "What the hell is even that?" The phrase "daddy chill" became popularized on TikTok in 2020, where users impersonate Tippy and say the phrase in humorous settings.

Origin

On January 18th, 2019, YouTuber^[7] McJuggerNuggets uploaded a video titled "EVICTION DAY!" as part of his extended The Devil Inside^[1] series. Around the 18:10 point in the video, Jeffrey Ridgeway Sr. attempts to evict numerous people who are partying in the home's shed. To try and diffuse the situation, a character named Tippy says in an effeminate voice, "daddy chill," to which Ridgeway Sr. responds, "what the hell is even that?" (shown below). The video gained over 2.8 million views in three years.

In mid-2020 the phrase became increasingly popular on TikTok in videos where people say the phrase like Tippy in funny situations. On August 9th, 2020, TikToker^[4] @zachkshat posted a video where he orders a "daddy chill" from a McDonald's drive-thru, gaining over 2.7 million views in roughly two years (shown below, left). On September 23rd, TikToker^[5] @ozikoy posted a video where he does an impression of Tippy saying the phrase to his dad, who speaks broken English, gaining over 4.1 million views in a similar span of time (shown below, right). Ozikoy made numerous videos pranking his father with the phrase.

Tippy's actor, who also goes by Tippy, regularly references the meme on social media. On August 20th, 2020, Tippy posted a video to YouTube^[3] reacting to memes from TikTok referencing the video, gaining over 944,000 views in two years (shown below).

On October 10th, 2020, Tippy's actor posted a video to their TikTok^[2] account @tippytiffanyjade with Ridgeway Senior's actor saying their respective lines, gaining over 11 million views in just over a year (shown below).

On November 29th, TikToker^[6] @joshgancas posted a video asking a few people to give their best "daddy chill," gaining over 4.3 million views in just over a year (shown below). He posted several more of these videos over the following days.

On January 23rd, 2021, YouTuber Daddy Chill uploaded a compilation of @ozikoy's videos saying the phrase to his dad, gaining over 143,000 views in a year (shown below).

On June 22nd, 2021, Tippy stitched a video by Bretman Rock where he shows off a hat with the phrase on it, one word on either side, gaining over 7 million views in eight months (shown below).
