Da Vinki refers to a viral video by the TikTokers the Vörös twins answering questions on TikTok. When posed with the question, "Who painted the Mona Lisa?" they read the answer "Da Vinci" but mispronounced the artist Leonardo Da Vinci's name as "Da Vinki."
Origin
On August 17th, 2020, the Vörös twins posted original video of themselves taking the quiz. The post received more than 265,000 views, 17,000 likes and 590 retweets (shown below).
Spread
Days later, the twins posted a video of themselves reacting to the video. The post received more than 409,000 views, 56,000 reactions and 990 comments in one month (shown below).
On September 15th, 2020, Twitter user @cooldetat shared the video. The post received more than 3.3 million views, 239,000 likes and 50,000 retweets in one week (shown below).
That day, the Vörös twins shared a clip from Instagram Stories of them reading the answer. The post received more than 4 million views, 716,000 reactions and 13,000 comments in one week (shown below).
The following day, Twitter user @sarahschauer tweeted the video with the caption "da vinky??" The tweet received more than 1.2 million views, 12,000 likes 2,000 retweets one week (shown below).
The clip became a popular sound on TikTok with people creating duets for the video (examples below, left and center).
On September 18th, posted another reaction to the spread of the video. Their first response received more than 1 million views, 60,000 reactions and 1,200 comments in less than one week (shown below, right).
On Twitter, people began posting fan art and memes about the video. For example. On September 20th, Twitter[1] user @TomZohar tweeted a picture of the Teletubbies, with "Da Vinky" as the fifth character. The post received more than 32,000 likes and 4,400 retweets in less than two days (shown below).
Subreddits focused on TikTok cringe videos, such as /r/TikTokCringe[3] and /r/Cringetopia[4] also featured on the video, as well as parodies and posts.
